Eczema is a term for a group of medical conditions which cause irritation to the skin. The most common type is known as atopic dermatitis. It is a hugely common condition, especially in children although most infants who develop the condition usually grow out of it by their 10th birthday. Affected areas appear very dry and red. The exact cause is unknown but eczema is though tot be linked to an overactive response by the body’s immune system to an irritant.
