A nasty illness that causes diarrhea and vomiting, gastroenteritis is the inflammation and irritation of your stomach and intestines. Other symptoms include cramps, tummy pain, nausea and a headache. The important thing here is to watch for dehydration. Children, especially, can get very dehydrated quickly so it is important that you try to ensure your body is hydrated either through sipping liquids or medication recommended by your doctor. Gastroenteritis is also sometimes known as ‘stomach flu’ and can be caused by contaminated food or water, you can contract it from someone else or from unwashed hands after using the bathroom. Bacteria can also trigger it in the form of Salmonella or E-coli and are usually spread by eating undercooked eggs or poultry.
