Influenza is usually more commonly known as ‘the flu’ and is often misused to describe any kind of mild illness such as a cold. But real flu symptoms are a lot more serious and usually last longer. Most flu outbreaks happen towards the winter months and it is easily picked up by others because symptoms take a few days to present themselves. It is usually caused by influenza viruses A and B, but there are different strains of the flu every year. Signs to look out for include a temperature, sore limbs, aches, a headache and sore throat. Usually symptoms are worst for the first three days and then ease off but it can often take up to two weeks to feel like yourself again. Influenza can sometimes lead to a bacterial infection such as ear infection, sinus infection or bronchitis.
