A rash is an abmornal change in the skin because of an irritant. Many do go away on their own and require only minor treatment but some may need medical treatment. Typical presentations of rashes include redness, itchy skin, bumps, blisters or swelling. There can be many different causes of such skin irritation such as allergic reactions or irritation due to jewellery or chemicals. Sometimes rashes are symptoms of another condition, as with impetigo or scabies or can be indications of something more serious like chicken pox or meningitis. Treatments can vary depending on the cause but many can be treated with medication. It is a good idea to contact your doctor if you notice an unusual rash or skin irritation that is causing you concern- especially in children.
