UTIs are very common and usually not serious. They are bacterial infections in the urinary system that includes your bladder, kidneys, and urethra. A UTI in your kidneys is refered to as pyelonephritis but if it is in your bladder it is called cystitis. Most of the causes of UTIs are due to bacteria normally found in your gut. Women are more prone to them because the tube that goes from the bladder to the urthera is much shorter than in men. Sometimes a uniary tract infection may be linked to sex. In men, a bladder infection is usually linked to another condition. Symptoms include pain or burning when you pee, an urge to pee right away and often, lower back pain, and your urine may be cloudy. Because bacteria can cause most UTIs, antibiotics may also be prescribed.
